Through the Noise Gate, you are able to minimize the amount of unnecessary noise, especially if you are using high gain.

THRESH. (Threshold): sets the threshold level for the signal. When the signal drops below the set threshold level, the noise gate silences the signal. Usually, keep the threshold level at the lowest possible value (fully counterclockwise) and set it higher only when you need to activate the gate.

REL. (Release): sets the gate release time. Higher values will result in a gate that takes a longer amount of time to close again, when the input signal drops below the threshold.

Glitches can occur when you are pushing your mobile device’s CPU to its limits.
On less powerful devices such as the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 2G, low battery can cause glitches. To reduce this problem always keep your battery charge between 60% and 100%.

Another way to give more headroom to your mobile device CPU is putting it in Airplane Mode, disabling all the wireless features.

In this case you will need to rise the listening level during the measurement process in order to get to a decent signal-to-noise ratio during the recording of the points.

Can I experiment with different mic positioning with respect to those indicated by the Analysis application?

We suggest starting with the pattern of points that are indicated by the Analysis application and to stick with them.

However, once you are familiar with the results, you can for sure experiment with different positioning.

The main concept to keep in mind is that the system optimizes the monitoring system in the area where the measurement points are taken. For example, you can experiment in taking the 7-points per layer in a narrower or wider spot, and so on.

Please check if the ARC Measurement Microphone is working, by connecting the microphone to a +48V phantom microphone preamp and listening to it through headphones. The microphone should exhibit a neutral, clean sound. If the microphone is not working, producing loud noises, or having a very weak output signal, please contact IK Multimedia Technical Support.

Reducing the Buffer Size value. The smaller the buffer size value is, the faster the response.

IMPORTANT: a small buffer size may introduce audio pop and click noises or CPU overload. Reliable operation highly depends on the performance and configuration of your system. Also, if there is an open audio application that is using the StealthPlug ASIO driver, you will not be able to change the buffer size value from the StealthPlug Control Panel. In this case, you will need to either:
  1. Close the application before you modify the buffer size or
  2. If available, enable the Release ASIO driver in background option in the ASIO options of the application.

iRig Mic Field is a high sensitivity device. For this reason there is a possibility that when used at max gain settings and the iOS device is operating in cellular low-signal conditions or distant from the Wi-Fi router, some RF noise could be picked up that will translate in pulsing noises in the recorded audio.

When iRig Mic Field is used in critical recordings at high gains and in critical RF signal conditions, we suggest switching Airplane Mode ON on the iOS device.

The noise you are hearing is from the monitors looking for a Bluetooth connection. It should only last approx. 20 seconds and will not occur again unless powered off/on again.

iRig Microphones

The first step to getting started is using a compatible app to activate your iRig. Download one of the following apps to get started. These all work very similarly, but can be used for different purposes.

  1. Set your volume On analogue iRig units like the iRig Mic, use the iOS headphone volume buttons to set your output level. On digital iRig units, like the iRig Mic HD 2, use the volume on the iRig itself. Set this to a normal level.
  2. Set your gain level Using the gain control on your iRig, set your input gain. If the input level is set too low you will have noise in your signal. If the input level is set too high you will have a distorted signal. When using analog iRig devices, like the iRig Mic, make sure to check your Menu -> Settings for additional input and output levels.
  3. Set your Latency & Quality Settings Use the Menu -> Settings in your app to set your Latency setting from LOW to ULTRA LOW. If you hear clicks and pops, disable AUTO-SLEEP, and set Latency to LOW.

*Never turn the “NO FEEDBACK” option OFF in the Menu -> Settings page when using headphones or earbuds, to avoid possible feedback.
*Never plug or unplug your headphones when an app is open and running.

*For longer recording sessions you may want to enable Airplane mode on your device

A D.I (Direct Inject/Input) box is a very useful tool which originated back in the 1960s. Designed mainly to bridge live gear to the studio. In technical terms they are used to drop the impedance of a source to a low impedance level, that works better with an audio interface.

Mainly these are used for guitar and bass players when recording or live on stage, but there are many other applications. See our page of examples here. This is especially useful for complimenting the input on an audio interface. Since an interfaces in essence is a complete studio all built into one device; from the pre-amps, headphone amplifier, D/A and A/D conversion, and not all inputs are created equally. This allows you to upgrade this one section of your existing audio interface without any physical changes to your set up, improving the clarity in your signal giving you’re a better start to your projects.

Most D.I boxes, like the Z-Tone D.I also offer a Ground Lift which helps prevent any noise when applying your signal. This is very useful when you want to get the cleanest signal possible. Another common feature used on D.I boxes is a Pad. This is used to step the level of the signal down a significant amount. On the Z-Tone D.I, this can drop your signal -20dB, which can help when recording very loud sources.

In summary, the D.I (Direct Inject/Input) box is an essential tool for an audio engineer either on the field doing gigs, or back at the studio.  Designed getting the perfect source sent into your audio interface, mixer, or other gear.
