Here are highlights from the Ultimate Guitar review:

AmpliTube X-VIBE

  • Ease of Use: 9
  • Sound: 8
  • Reliability & Durability: 9
  • Overall Impression: 10

Reviewer's combined score: 9 Superb

Ease of Use — 9

It's easy to save and rotate through presets, and the control knobs and screen on the pedal let you interact and see what you're doing or changing at all times. In fact, the screen is one of the major reasons I was willing to consider switching to a programmable modulation platform like this.

Sound — 8

IK Multimedia's X-VIBE succeeds in translating their AmpliTube plug-in suite to a much more user-friendly pedal format. Takes on the Phase 90, Electric Mistress, and foXX Foot Phaser are true to tone, providing warm, lush modulation effects on par with my suite of traditional pedals from Boss, EHX, and MXR.

Reliability & Durability — 9

The X-VIBE feels unmistakably boutique, but also rugged and well built. It has a hard metal enclosure, rock-solid knobs and input/output jacks, and seems to be low noise. The effects are lush, feature no real hiss or buzz, and seem very stage-ready.

The ability to use this as a programmable modulation station by connecting it to your computer also helps make it even more worthy of being thrown in a bag and taken on tour.

Ultimate Guitar on X-VIBE

Overall Impression — 10

It's hard to fault the X-VIBE, as it provides you with 16 modulation pedals for $300. It has all the bells and whistles you need for modern playing, including MIDI capabilities, room for hundreds of presets, and ultra tweakable tones.

The ability to use the tap tempo switch, or call up different effects on the fly, makes this all the more valuable as part of a complicated turned simple guitar rig.
