Glenn Fricker on Comprexxor

“How the hell they pulled this off, I have no idea!”

Glenn Fricker recently posted an extended review of the T-RackS Comprexxor, IK's Swiss Army knife compressor plug-in. He demos Comprexxor on kick and snare, bass, the master bus and lead vocals and comes to the conclusion: "This might become one of my absolute favorite software comps."

Glenn's an audio engineer with over 435K subscribers and 91M views on his YouTube channel SpectreSoundStudios. There he offers tutorials on how to track guitar, bass, real drums and vocals and everything you want to learn about recording hard rock and heavy metal.

If you want to see how far Comprexxor can go, this video is a fun ride!

Some moments from the video:

"This IK software here is designed to emulate a very famous compressor that I happen to use an awful lot and I'm actually using right now. The whole thing is supposed to be useful on a whole bunch of sources, not just a couple of things.

"That's impressive actually. The snare is honestly a little bit boxier sounding with the hardware compressor. The Comprexxor has added just a little bit more softness and a little bit more attack, all at the same time.

Is this the Swiss Army knife of compressors? You bet it is. Try it out for yourself and see how well it works for you. You're going to like what it can do.

"That has a lot to do with the distortion and tone controls here. You can just round things off in a very analog-sounding way, which is bizarre considering this is a piece of software. Major props to IK there.

"This might become one of my absolute favorite software comps. I like the Brit mode and I like the different distortion modes.

"Wow, that is damn impressive. I only had a couple of dBs of gain reduction going on down here and I was set up for very clean using the low-frequency roll-off so the detector circuit doesn't go completely out of control. That holds up against the hardware very very well. I'm kind of shocked.

"I like how that works on a full mix. I'm impressed. I'm going to save this as a preset actually.

Holy crap, I like that. It holds its own against the hardware. That is extremely impressive. Way to go IK. I didn't think it was going to be able to pull that off.

"That might be one of the coolest vocal distortion effects I've ever heard digitally. I've been trying to get that kind of vocal distortion digitally for I don't know how long and I've tried so many plug-ins and whatnot. This is the first one that's actually managed to pull that off. I'm blown away by that."
