How-to install Syntronik 2 or Update from Syntronik 1/Syntronik Deluxe

Syntronik 2 is a powerful update to the original Syntronik. The update lets you load your original Syntronik libraries, and it also includes new presets that use your existing Syntronik 1/ Syntronik Deluxe sample content.

Use this guide below to help walk you through a Fresh Install (New Users) or an Update from a previous version. At the bottom of this guide we will also cover Download Locations and Installing to External Drives.

Some Extra Clarification:

Before we get started, we want to mention one key difference between the original Syntronik 1 and the new Syntronik 2 presets. Syntronik 1 presets use the SampleTank 3 engine, and these presets appear as .st3i files. Syntronik 2 presets use the SampleTank 4 engine, and these presets appear as .st4i files. Only Syntronik 2 (.st4i) files are able to use the new EDIT page to fully customize your presets, however all presets are able to do more in Syntronik 2 using the other new features.

Existing Syntronik 1 / Syntronik Deluxe users do not need to reinstall their existing sample content, just the new Syntronik 2 presets. While new Syntronik 2 presets use the new .st4i format, all presets are able to reference the original samples in from your existing SampleTank 3 sound content directory.

Fresh Install:

A fresh installation refers to a brand-new user who has never owned a version of Syntronik before.

  1. Download the Syntronik 2 software using IK Product Manager
  2. To do this, open the IK Product Manager and click Manage My Products, where you will find the Software tab with Syntronik 2
    *
If you do not see Syntronik 2, use the Register button to unlock this.
  3. Click Install next to the Syntronik 2 software title, to automatically authorize your software unless you’ve changed this option in the IK Product Manager
*If you have disabled this option, make sure to click Authorize once installed.
  4. Once complete, the IK Product Manager will ask you to begin downloading your Syntronik 2 sound content. We suggest using this option and proceeding with the default location if you're a new user.
For those concerned with disk space, you can remove the Downloads after the Installation is complete and your software is working. We suggest backing this content up before deleting it in case you ever need to download again this will save you some time.

Update:

Update refers to the experience of an existing Syntronik 1 / Syntronik Deluxe user.

  4. Once complete, the IK Product Manager will ask if you'd like to begin downloading your Syntronik 2 sound content. At this point, if you already have your Syntronik 1 sound content, make sure to open Syntronik 2 and select this in Preferences under the Library tab if this is not already selected. Once done, you can proceed with using the IK Product Manager to finish your downloads.
*While the IK Product Manager will download the latest sounds and overwrite any older, necessary files, this will not alter any of your custom presets. For those concerned with disk space, you can remove the Downloads after the Installation is complete and your software is working. We suggest backing this content up before deleting it. This will save you a lot of time if you ever need to reinstall the sound content.

DOWNLOAD/INSTALL LOCATION:

The IK Product Manager includes a customizable Download location in the Preferences for the installer files. Note that this is different than the Sound Content installation path which refers refer to the existing path(s) defined in your Syntronik 2 Settings. If the Sound Content Path is not yet customized, your sound content will install to the default location.

INSTALLING TO EXTERNAL DRIVES:

When installing your sound content, you may choose to install to a separate drive or custom location. This is perfectly acceptable. When doing so, you just need to make sure of a few things.

We suggest all Syntronik 2 sound content files are installed to a dedicated Syntronik 2 folder. Any existing Syntronik 1 sound content files may be left where they are (the default location is the SampleTank 3 sound content disk path).

  1. Make sure your system is able to read/write to the drive/location being used to avoid any issues when it comes to saving/loading presets. For example, if you're using an NTFS drive, macOS cannot write to this format without third party software.
  2. Once you're sure your drive is compatible with your system, using the IK Product Manager, go to the Sounds tab and find the sounds you wish to install.
  3. Click the More Options button to the right of the product title.
  4. Select the location where you'd like the sound content to install to. We recommend installing Syntronik 2 sounds to their own "Syntronik 2" folder. Do note, this does not change the Download location mentioned above. To change this location you must use the IK Product Manager preferences.
  5. Once installed to your new location, Syntronik 2 will automatically see this location and add it to the Preferences under the Library tab.
  6. Remove any unused disk paths from your Syntronik 2 Settings under the Sound Content tab. For example, if you see the default location listed, but you've selected a new path, the original default path should be should be deleted. This helps Syntronik 2 scan and build your library database as fast as possible.
*Since the Install option for your sound content detects your current path, another option includes opening Syntronik 2 after the software installation, cancelling the sound content download. Next, open Syntronik 2 and select your External Drive's location in the Settings under Library. Then proceed in the IK Product Manager with the normal Install option to the right of the Syntronik 2 sound content.
