IK's iRig Mic paved the way for mobile reporting and is now honoured with a special place

30 August 2017

iRig Mic was the first handheld, quality condenser microphone for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. It literally paved the way for mobile reporting on the go and changed the way journalists could report from the field.

Berlin's renowned German Museum of Technology/Deutsches Technikmuseum has honoured iRig Mic with a special place in their permanent exhibition and included it in their "Blogger's Handtasche" (Blogger's briefcase) which illustrates the story and the essential tools of mobile reporting and blogging. It is based on the gear setup of Richard Gutjahr, a well-known and respected German moderator and blogger who was also an early adopter of iRig Mic (he currently uses iRig Mic HD and is looking forward to progressing to iRig Mic HD 2 once it becomes available shortly).

Richard acquired his first practical experience within ARD public broadcasting as well as with Süddeutsche Zeitung and in the Washington Bureau of CNN. Today, Richard Gutjahr works as a freelance reporter and presenter for German Radio & Television (ARD), where he hosted WDR aktuell, a news magazine during the day and the late edition of BR-Rundschau during evenings. He also writes (among others) occasionally for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Rheinische Post (Düsseldorf) and Tagesspiegel (Berlin). He had his own weekly column in Münchner Abendzeitung.
Richard is famous for covering the Nice and Munich attacks in mid-2016 with a mobile phone, and he explained "how basic mobile technology allowed him to cover the two attacks".

Furthermore, Blogger's Handtasche has been an active part of a number of workshops that the German Museum of Technology/Technikmuseum runs for school children.
