IK Multimedia Backstage for NIN and Jane’s Addiction 2009
NINJA Tour’s opening show, May 8, 2009, West Palm Beach, FL USA

NIN and Jane's Addiction members need no introduction to South Florida, and were welcomed with open arms from 20,000 plus music fans who stormed the arena to welcome the sounds of "Head Like a Hole",  "Been Caught Stealing" and "Jane Says", the #1 hits and "alternative rock milestones" of their days. The NINJA Tour is a long-awaited comeback and reunion for music legends: Eric Avery, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins and Perry Farrell from Jane's Addiction. Plus, the NINJA Tour not only features these two amazing bands, but a third called StreetSweeper Social Club; Tom Morrello's new outfit, and is scheduled to hit the stages of 25 cities in North America so far this summer.

IK Multimedia was honored to meet with Trent Reznor from NIN and Eric Avery, Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro from Jane's Addiction before the NINJA Tour's opening show in West Palm Beach, FL on May 8th 2009. We talk to them about music production and trained Eric Avery of Jane's Addiction on IK's USB powered audio interface and floor controller for "Powered by AmpliTube" software, StompIO.

Perry Farrell and Eric Avery from Jane's Addiction were introduced to IK's newest guitar/bass modeling software a few months ago, AmpliTube Fender®, when it was first released. Perry noted that he was inspired to use it for FX on vocals, and Eric was stoked with the idea of working with StompIO. Both noted that they were interested in working with more of IK's music production software and hardware on-stage for future shows and for music production while on the road.

Trent Reznor of NIN helped produce and record the new Jane's Addiction songs for the upcoming NINJA tour, and IK is proud to admit that he is also a registered StompIO and "Powered by AmpliTube" software user, along with members of his production team. These tools were used in the creation of the new songs for JA and NIN's new albums.

Jane's Addiction BIO:

Jane's Addiction is an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1985. The band is composed of Perry Farrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar), Eric Avery (bass) and Stephen Perkins (drums). After breaking up in 1991, Jane's Addiction briefly toured in 1997, reunited in 2001 and then parted ways in 2004. Jane's Addiction have since reunited again in 2008, with founding member Eric Avery returning on bass. The band's varied musical style has influences rooted in punk, gothic rock, and heavy metal.

Jane's Addiction was one of the first bands to emerge from the early 1990s alternative rock movement to gain mainstream media attention and commercial success in the United States. Their initial farewell tour launched the first Lollapalooza festival, an annual touring alternative rock showcase. As a result, Jane's Addiction became icons of what Farrell dubbed the "Alternative Nation".

Nine Inch Nails BIO:

Nine Inch Nails is an American industrial rock music group, founded in 1988 by Trent Reznor in Cleveland, Ohio. As its main producer, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, Reznor is the only official member of Nine Inch Nails and remains solely responsible for its direction. NIN's music straddles a wide range of genres, while retaining a characteristic sound using electronic instruments and processing. After recording a new album, Reznor usually assembles a live band to perform with him. The touring band features a revolving lineup that often rearranges songs to fit a live setting. On stage, NIN often employs spectacular visual elements to accompany performances, which frequently culminate with the band destroying their instruments.

The band produced several highly influential records in the 1990s that achieved widespread popularity: many Nine Inch Nails songs became radio hits, two NIN recordings won Grammy Awards, and the band has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, with 11 million sales certified in the US alone. In 1997, Reznor appeared in Time magazine's list of the year's most influential people, and Spin magazine described him as "the most vital artist in music." In 2004, Rolling Stone placed Nine Inch Nails at 94 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. Despite this acclaim, the band has had several feuds with the corporate side of the recording industry. In 2007, these corporate entanglements resulted in Reznor announcing that Nine Inch Nails would split from its label and release future material independently.

Since 1989, Nine Inch Nails has made eight major studio releases. The most recent releases, Ghosts I–IV and The Slip, both released in 2008, were released under Creative Commons licenses. Both were initially released digitally, with physical releases coming later. The digital release of The Slip was made available completely free of charge. NIN has been nominated for twelve Grammy Awards and won twice for the songs "Wish" and "Happiness in Slavery", in 1992 and 1995 respectively.
