The Los Angeles-based rockers reveal how they use IK products to produce their heavy shoegaze sound in a new video

3 November 2014

The Cold & Lovely is an alternative rock band based out of Los Angeles, California whose style is influenced by the muscular shoegazers and arena rockers of the 1990s. We recently caught up with singer-guitarist-producer Meghan Toohey at her home recording studio to chat music production using IK gear. Megan walked us through how products like iRig Keys PRO, iLoud, AmpliTube 3, SampleTank for iPad, iRig Mic HD, iRig PRO and iKlip Xpand help to shape their music creation and performances.

As Toohey says, “I dug really deep into albums that changed my life. … I tried to pinpoint what I loved about the guitar tones and production. I wanted there to be a grit to this record that I hadn’t truly expressed the way I wanted to on the first record.” Mission accomplished."

"I usually record with Logic Pro and I have my iRig Keys hooked up to it as my MIDI controller. I've got my SampleTank going on with a little bit of AmpliTube. It's a whole new world with these products."

"The iRig keyboard is great because it's really lightweight yet the keys still have a really nice feel to them."

"The iLoud speaker sounds great and because it's wireless we can take it anywhere."

About The Cold & Lovely

If Los Angeles trio the Cold and Lovely seem determined to take their efforts out of the realm of “side project,” their “Ellis Bell” EP succeeds in a big way. The music took shape between the members’ other commitments — the Cold and Lovely are fronted by singer-guitarist-producer Meghan Toohey (the Weepies, Lenka, Schuyler Fisk), who along with bassist Nicole Fiorentino (Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt, Spinnerette) fashioned the songs on which mixer Dave Cooley put the finishing touches. Fans of My Bloody Valentine, Pale Saints, Curve and U2 will want to take note.
