Rock veterans Genesis have unveiled the dates for their first tour in 15 years. The "Turn It On Again" tour marks the reunion of iconic Genesis members such as Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford. The tour will be traveling to all the biggest stadiums as it treks across Europe in 2007 through Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Germany, France, Holland, UK, Monte Carlo and Italy.
Dave Kerzner, CEO of Sonic Reality
, sound partner of IK Multimedia has been working with Genesis in integrating IK's Total Studio Bundle
, the most complete collection of plug-ins to record, compose, produce and master as part of their musical set ups.
"At this point I think all members of Genesis, past and present, are now using IK Multimedia software and Sonic Reality sounds," says Dave Kerzner. "Tony Banks is making great use of SampleTank 2
, Sonik Synth 2
and Miroslav Philharmonik
(the three powerful virtual instruments of the Total Workstation Bundle
), Mike Rutherford has been getting into his AmpliTube 2
and Ampeg SVX
guitar and bass amp and effect plug-ins and is eager to check out the loops of the R.A.W. Series
. Phil Collins wants to get together with me to learn tips and tricks on how to get SampleTank 2 and Sonik Synth 2 to be a major part of his new computer music studio. Genesis' engineer/co-producer Nick Davis has been using the complete Total Studio Bundle with a particular fondness for virtual outboard gear such as CSR Classik Studio Reverb
, analog modeled mastering and mixing effects. Even past members of Genesis such as Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett are using various IK Multimedia and Sonic Reality plug-ins and sounds now. It's a thrill for me personally because I grew up listening to Genesis."
Dave goes on to say, "I had a great moment talking to Tony Banks at The Farm Studio where Genesis has recorded for years. I told him that when I was young I saw him surrounded by synthesizers and naively thought that it was possible to play any sound of the orchestra with a set up like that. The irony is that while he couldn't do that back then he does now with products like Miroslav Philharmonik, SampleTank 2 and Sonik Synth 2. So we laughed about how it had come full circle."
Dave sat in on recent rehearsals where the band was jamming their classic repertoire in preparation for their reunion tour. In Tony Banks' rack is a Muse Research Receptor stuffed with IK Multimedia plug-ins, SampleTank 2, Sonik Synth 2 and a customized version of Miroslav Philharmonik. "I am making custom banks of SampleTank sounds for Tony to user either live or in the studio. There's a desire to bring the power of the computer into the live set up but it is a gradual process of integrating those elements into the hardware rig one has been used to for years." says Dave Kerzner. "I am happy to see both Tony and Mike be so open about the possibilities of what the new generation of software instruments and effects can do for them either live or in the studio… or even on a plane!"
