The show kicked off at 7:30 with our very own company band, Sonik Elementz featuring IK and Sonic Reality musicians playing music with top pros in the industry. Sonic Reality CEO Dave Kerzner was the musical director and keyboardist for the first set which included a revolving door of musicians including Jon Anderson (vocalist of Yes), Sheldon Reynolds (guitarist from Earth, Wind & Fire), Larry Dunn (original keyboardist for Earth, Wind & Fire), Morris Pleasure (keyboardist and musical director for Earth, Wind & Fire), Nick D’Virgilio (vocalist/drummer for Spock’s Beard, Tears for Fears, Genesis), Rob Lewis and the complete horn section of Christina Aguilera’s band, Neil Zaza on guitar, Stan Cotey (product manager for Digidesign) on guitar, IK’s Mark Hornsby on bass and more. Highlights of the set included the song “Long Distance Runaround” by Yes, “Shining Star” by Earth, Wind & Fire and “Who Knows” by Jimi Hendrix which was a special version originally played with George Duke on the newly released “Power of Soul” tribute album. Immediately following the Sonik Elementz eclectic set was an even more diverse array of musicians from Jimmy Dale and his son playing popular surf guitar tunes to Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) of Population 1 and an evening of special guests that ranged from Yngwie Malmsteen to Jon Anderson (Yes), Mark Anthony (Van Halen), Gary Cherone (Extreme), Will Calhoun, T.M. Stevens, Jordan Rudess, Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction) and many others. Backstage, IK and Sonic Reality musicians like Larry Ortega, Dave Kerzner, Elliot Fineberg , Mark Hornsby and Jimmy Blankenship talked to a wide variety of musicians using IK and Sonic Reality products, such as AmpliTube®. T-RackS®, Sonik Synth™ 2 and SampleTank®2. (link to product pages) Dave discussed playing the difficult keyboard parts of Yes songs with Patrick Moraz. The concert night at Galaxy was a phenomenal event and a huge hit with the audience. Guests of this exclusive party included numerous music industry heavyweights, as well as well-known journalists, NAMM members from all over the world, and many prominent musicians and close friends of IK and Sonic Reality. The night’s performances were a brilliant blend of live funk, rock and jamming with amazing musicians on numerous instruments, integrated with cutting-edge software and innovative technology. The Galaxy night was an excellent example of bringing together talent and technology that enable and inspire musicians to create and play music, and that is what IK Multimedia’s ‘Musicians First’ approach and the NAMM show are really about. |
